Augmented Reality are applied to different aspects and studies in life. It is used to improve and easily understand the knowledge about these studies. Here are a some if its applications

Archaeology- augmented reality is applied to give aid to research. Archaeologist used AR by creating different archaeological attributes into present day landscapes which allows them to conceive or determine possible site locations from existing structures.
Architecture- augmented reality helps in visualizing building designs. Given a certain lot or an area, images generated by computers may be covered with these lots in order to know what it looks like after building it. The development of Global Positioning Data or GPS enables architects, developers, contractors, and engineers to properly visualize construction site models, underground infrastructure, pipes and cables by only using smart phones or laptops.
Video games- this is where augmented reality is mostly used by students. Several games which can be played inside the comfort of your houses are being developed with augmented reality played by virtual AI enemies. The instant popular game Pokémon Go is one example of an AR on which the players will see in their phones creatures that they need to catch.

Definition

Augment simply means to improve a certain material or matter by adding different components to make it better or great. Augmented reality is an actual viewing of tangible, real-world surroundings either directly or indirectly. The components of augmented reality are supplemented by sensory data (video, sound, and global positioning data or GPS) generated by computers. Generally, the concept of augmented reality comes from mediated reality. Mediated reality is the use of gadgets such as computers or iPhones in adding or subtracting information in the environment. This concept doesn’t literally remove objects in reality but just tricks the eye of the user or in simply manipulating what the user perceives.

The technology serves as an enhancement to the user’s perception of reality. In a time scale, augmentation happens on a real time basis with detailed context of the environment like scores on sports during a game. Two of the important components of augmented reality are object recognition system and computer vision systems; these two comprises augmented reality which makes it more interesting. Augmented Reality transforms the real world of the person into a manipulative and interactive environment. The details of the surroundings and the object present are laminated in reality.

Contrasting Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality differs in several ways. AR is the inverse of VR or VR is the inverse of AR. It works on either ways of the proportion. While augmented reality incorporates virtual things into a real environment, Virtual reality creates its own surroundings or environment based solely on real life situations, the more realistic its looks like the better.

Augmented Reality improves the experience of users by the addition of virtually created components or elements like graphics, images, or sensations into a new level of interaction to reality. Everything in a virtual reality are computer based data which creates its personal concept of reality. They also differ on how to deliver these technologies to the people.

Augmented reality are commonly used in smartphones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices in augmenting or supplying additional information to the real world. Virtual Reality is widely used with head-mounted devices or hand-operated controllers which connects the people to virtual reality and allows them to navigate and control their movements and actions.
